Project Goals.

Challenges.

  • Stakeholder management

  • Stakeholders think the data would work well for MMBSI bankers, but there were no solid research results

  • Tight timeframe at the first stage

Design Draft.

Version 1

Since there were no research results proving the practicality of the data, I decided to create a quick design draft and conduct user testing to validate the data and design.

1

Allow users to select data source by clicking the data source dropdown on the top left. Users can compare data from different data sources and choose the one they trust

2

Users can view the Wallet data from a high level in the bar chart

3

In the table, users can view data of:
Estimate (total amount of Wallet)
JPM Revenue (how much $ the client has used at JPMorgan)
Delta (how much $ the client has not used, which is the opportunity)
Estimate - JPM Revenue = Delta

4 MMBSI bankers, 2 CCBSI bankers

MMBSI (Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries) Bankers

  • Client Size: Small-Medium
Focus on middle-market companies with annual revenues ranging from $20 million to $500 million

  • Complexity: Low
Complexity refers to financial operations, structures, risk management, global operations, etc. Generally involve less complexity compared to large corporations

CCBSI (Corporate Client Banking & Specialized Industries) Bankers

  • Client Size: Large
Work with large corporate clients with annual revenues exceeding $500 million

  • Complexity: High
Large corporations often have more intricate financial structures, global operations, and a greater need for strategic financial advice due to their complexity

Key Topics.

  • How would users leverage the data?

  • What would users expect to benefit from Wallet?

  • After learning the data, what would users do next?

  • Is the data valuable to users?

User Feedback.

  What users want

  • MMBSI & CCBSI bankers both think it would be extremely helpful to show if the client is using our product and how much $ the client has used

  Need to consider

  • MMBSI bankers think the data is only useful for prospecting but not for existing clients.
Since the bank already has a comprehensive understanding of the existing client's banking activities, MMBSI bankers may not need to focus on wallet data as much when dealing with existing clients due to the client size and complexity. Instead, MMBSI bankers may focus on building and maintaining the relationship with them

Action Items.

  • I decided to change the focus from MMBSI to CCBSI bankers to see if CCBSI bankers are the primary target users

  • Add a section listing the products with the best potential to make it easier for users to prioritize the products when the data density is high

Design Iteration.

Version 2

1

Products most likely used: shows the top 5 products based on the key metrics

3

Table: Allow users to check the products in the table. The checked products will be visualized in the column chart, making it easier for users to compare the key metrics

2

Product Comparison: shows the key metrics in the column chart

4

Estimated Revenue: shows data of estimated revenue users can make for each product group. Users can view the data from different data sources to compare

5

Product Usage: Allow users to quickly know what products the client is using

Version 2

Interviewees.

2 MMBSI bankers, 5 CCBSI bankers

Key Topics.

  • Can users find all the metrics they need?

  • What data would users look at first? Why?

  • How would they use the data in their day-to-day work?

  • How would they compare the products?

  • Is the data valuable to users?

User Feedback.

  What worked

  • CCBSI bankers think “Product most likely used” and “Product Usage” is very valuable.

  What didn't work

  • MMBSI bankers think the page looks a little overwhelming

  • Both think the column chart is not so helpful as we have “Product most likely used” already

  • Both are not interested in seeing different data sources / how the data has been calculated. They view it as a noise or it just confuses them.

  What users want

  • CCBSI bankers want to see the client’s recent financial activities

  • CCBSI bankers think it would be helpful if there is a proportion of wallet and competitor’s (other bank) data

Action Items.

  • Simplify the data on the page. Show more actionable information instead of granularity

  • Consolidate a user journey based on user feedback

  • Ideate a way to visualize the proportion of Wallet and other bank’s data

  • Remove data source related content to eliminate confusion and have users focus more on the data itself

  • Shorten the naming to make it more concise and intuitive

Design Solution.

Final Version

User Journey.

1

Top Opportunities: shows the top products with the most potential, helping users prioritize the products quickly

2

Product Usage & Insights: Users can either view Product Usage (how much they’ve used at JPMorgan) or Product Insights (if they have corresponding activities / balance in their accounts), supporting users to validate if it’s a good opportunity for them

3

Wallet Estimate: Display the Wallet Estimate data with the granularity from low to high. Users can view the proportion of each product group in the difference and the distribution of other banks in the total wallet. Enable users to have an at-a-glance view of how big the wallet is and how much they can make.

4

Table: Show data for all the products, enabling users to switch between different regions as CCBSI bankers work on international accounts
